Live classical music returned to Folkestone's St Eanswythe’s Church when a small local audience and a larger virtual audience heard music for flute, violin and piano.

Ben and Tom Hancox, accompanied by Tony Ingham, perform a kaleidoscopic programme ranging from a Bach Trio Sonata through to music from Nino Rota, composer of some of the greatest film music ever written, including The Godfather and many classic Italian films of the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Ben is the leader of the Sacconi Quartet while Tom is the principal flautist of Northern Ballet and co-principal of the Britten Sinfonia. Both are very familiar and popular figures in Folkestone.

Tony is an acclaimed pianist as well as teacher at both the Royal Academy of Music and Westminster Cathedral Choir School.

The concert was part of a collaborative project by the Canterbury Music Club and Bayle Music, led by Grenville Hancox as an exemplar of how by working together, music clubs can reach a larger audience, and keep live music alive.

It was also streamed with the help of Kent-based RVP Media and featured Bach’s Trio Sonata in G major, two pieces for flute and piano by little-known American composers, Eldin Burton who died in 1979 and Richard Lane, who died in 2004.

Then followed Cesar Franck’s Violin Sonata, written by the 68-year-old composer as a wedding present for the legendary violinist Eugene Ysaye.

All three performers came together for Nino Rota’s Trio for Flute, Violin and Piano.

The next live and streaming concert in the series is on Sunday, November 22 at 3pm and will be given by the Kentish Piano Trio of music by Beethoven and Schubert. For more details go here: canterburymusicclub.com
