The UK’s longest-running scare attraction is back for another year of thrills and chills.

The Halloween mazes have been a fixture at Chatham’s Fort Amherst for 41 years with terrifying set pieces, blood-curdling characters and spooky special effects.

The event features a series of horror-themed walkthroughs, many of which take place in the fort’s Napoleonic tunnels, with live actors and detailed decorations.

The ‘extreme’ event takes visitors aged 13 and over through a long maze with different scenes, which can include costumed characters that may touch or talk to guests.

The tour began in 1983 and was the country’s first Halloween scare attraction. Now, it is one of Kent’s busiest Halloween events and boasts a team of 200 volunteers.

After experiencing the maze, visitors can calm down with a drink from the bar and pick up a snack at one of the food stalls.

There is also axe-throwing and Halloween merchandise available to buy after the event.

For those with young kids who want to experience a less intense scare, there is also the children’s tour.

This 30-minute walkthrough is suitable for guests aged 4 to 12 and includes some interactive elements and characters. Although the experience is much less thrilling than the adult tour, visitors will still be given a safeword at the start of the event to use if children want to exit the tunnels.
