Bake Off's Chetna Makan to open cafe at Waterstones, Rose Lane, Canterbury

Have a slice of some local art with your coffee and cake at a new cafe in Canterbury.

Waterstones in Rose Lane is opening an eatery this weekend with a host of events, including an exhibition called A Portrait of Canterbury.

Broadstairs Bake Off star Chetna Makan will be doing a demo in the café on Friday, May 6 and over the weekend there’ll be entertainment from Mog the Cat plus local musicians and entertainers.

The exhibition will feature glass artist Linda Smith and photographers Jon Strange, Andreea Paciu and Winston Feather. Chetna will be in the café from 6.30pm on Friday to give a baking demonstration and to talk about her new cookbook the Cardamom Trail. Entry is £3.

Music comes from Patrick Channon, jazz pianist Andrew Hedges and guitarist David Reay. Magician and comedian El Baldinho will pop in.

The cafe will sell triple-certified coffee from Matthew Algie and customers can get a free cup with all food bought on Saturday and Sunday.
