Folk protégé Luke Jackson is ending the year on a high – accompanying legendary rock group Marillion on tour and travelling alongside Ed Sheeran’s songwriting collaborator, Amy Wadge.

Luke, from Canterbury, is playing his last Kent gig of 2104 at Folk in the Barn before hitting the road with Marillion for dates across Europe in the week before Christmas.

Glasgow’s O2, Manchester’s HMV Ritz, the Forum in Kentish Town and venues in Utrecht, Eindhoven and Cologne are all on the itinerary.

Last year, saw Luke, 20, nominated for both the BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award for Best Emerging Talent, the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award, and named the One to Watch at east Kent’s Culture Awards 2013.

This year he followed that up with the release of his second album Fumes and Faith, enjoyed concert and festival bookings across the country, including the Marillion dates.

Looking ahead to early next year, Luke has a UK tour to look forward to with singer-songwriter Amy Wadge. Amy penned the current Ed Sheeran hit Thinking Out Loud with him, among others. The fact that Amy deems Luke, who is known for his bold, confident and captivating performances, a worthy companion on her tour is high praise indeed.

So this weekend’s one-off chance to see Luke and his band, including Connor Downs and Andy Sharps on percussion and bass, will make a real pre-Christmas treat for Kent music fans. It takes place at Canterbury Christ Church University’s Student Union building in St George’s Place on Sunday, December 14, at 8pm.
