Willy Russell’s moving tale of a long-lost family returns to the stage for a UK tour.
Blood Brothers, which made its West End debut in 1983, is currently visiting theatres across the country on a 16-week tour, including five nights at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley.
The production stars X Factor finalist Niki Colwell Evans and Sean Jones, who has played the role of Mickey, on and off, since 1999.
Niki reached the semi-finals of Simon Cowell’s singing competition in 2007, under the guidance of mentor Louis walsh.
Since then, she has performed in shows such as Kinky Boots and Legally Blonde, and sang at the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations at Windsor Castle in 2016 alongside the likes of Andrea Boccelli and Katherine Jenkins.
This isn’t the first time the singer has appeared in this particular show; from 2008 to 2010, she made her Blood Brothers debut as Mrs Johnstone, a role which she is reprising for this latest tour.
Theatre star Sean is also reprising the role of Mickey for the final time, so it’s the last chance for fans to see him perform as the iconic character.
Blood Brothers, set in Liverpool between the 1950s and 1980s, follows the lives of twins Eddie and Mickey, who are separated at birth after their mother cannot afford to feed two more children and leaves one of them in the care of an upper middle-class family.
The show, written by Willy Russell, who also penned plays Educating Rita and Shirley Valentine, is one of only three musicals to have surpassed 10,000 performances on London’s West End.
Since opening almost 40 years ago, the musical has won three Olivier Awards and been nominated for six Tony Awards.
Blood Brothers will be at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley, from Tuesday, February 28 to Saturday, March 4. Book online here or call 03433 100020.
Tickets start from £25, not including booking fees.
