Get ready for a brand new sound as a group of teenage trail blazers dance their way onto the stage in Hairspray.
The smash hit musical is coming to Dartford’s Orchard Theatre from Monday, March 21 to Saturday, March 26 March.
Hairspray, which follows the fight for liberation, tolerance and interracial unity in 1960s Baltimore, has been getting audiences up off their feet for more than 30 years.
When happy-go-lucky dancer Tracey Turnblad finds herself on national television, she uses her platform to spread the message of love and equality, winning hearts - including that of teen idol Link Larkin - along the way.
The soundtrack to this uplifting production includes plenty of feel-good show-stoppers, including Good Morning Baltimore, Welcome to the 60s and, of course, fan favourite You Can’t Stop the Beat.
The current production stars Loose Woman Brenda Edwards as Motormouth Maybelle and comedian Norman Pace as Wilbur Turnblad.
Alex Bourne, a familiar face in British theatre, will be taking on the role of Edna Turnblad. The character was originally performed by drag artist Divine, and famously reinvented in later years by the likes of Michael Ball and John Travolta.
Based on the 1988 film by John Waters, Hairspray opened on Broadway in 2002, followed by a West End production in 2008. Now the show is hitting the road with a nationwide tour, stopping off in Kent along the way.
With big hearts, and even bigger hair, this fun-filled show delivers colourful costumes and dizzying dance moves that will have you doing the twist in no time.
Hairspray is at the Orchard Theatre in Dartford from Monday, March 21 to Saturday, March 26 March. Pre-show dining is also available, and can be booked with your tickets.
