The first glimpse of plans to build a hospital, nursing home and three retail stores including an Aldi supermarket have gone on display.

Nearly 200 people attended an exhibition at the Seasalter Christian Centre in Faversham Road yesterday for proposals to redevelop Estuary View business park.

The scheme is proposed by George Wilson and Kimberley Developments who hosted the viewing along with traffic consultants and medical professionals.

The mixed development would see two food outlets, including the German chain, open at the site as well as an unnamed retail store.

Traffic concerns on the Thanet Way proved to be the most asked question from visitors but developers remain confident congestion will not be a problem.

They say plans to widen the Thanet Way to add an extra lane of traffic from Estuary View to the Borstal Hill roundabout will help to control traffic flow.

A planning application is expected to be submitted in late August.

Mr Wilson said: "The developers were delighted with the public response. So many people came to ask us and the consultants questions.

"We felt we put on a good display and I want to thank those who came along."

The development has raised concerns from the Whitstable Chamber of Commerce who are worried more traffic on the town's outskirts could drive people away from the town centre.
