A councillor's garage has been destroyed after a car ploughed through his fence this morning.
Colin Spooner was woken by a loud bang at about 5.20am at his home in Pilgrims Lane, Seasalter.
The black Mercedes reportedly veered off the road into Cllr Spooner's fence before it smashed into his garage, causing considerable damage and reducing one side of it to a pile of rubble.
Police were called and detained two people nearby, according to Cllr Spooner.
He predicts the damage to his fence, garage and its contents will cost thousands of pounds to repair or replace.
Cllr Spooner said the damage is "annoying" and has long-called for an Armco barrier to be installed near his home which is near Thanet Way.
Over the 15 years he has lived there, he claims 10 cars have crashed into his fence.
A police spokesman said they were contacted shortly after 5am today and it was reported that a car had been stolen from Eaton Road, Margate.
"It was later reported that a car matching the description had collided with a fence in Pilgrims Lane, Seasalter," they said.
"Officers attended and recovered the vehicle and inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing."
