A steel worker could be set to swap the factory for the catwalk after reaching the final of a competition to be crowned Britain’s Manliest Man.

Nick Morgan, 44, of Sherwood Drive, Whitstable, will win a one-year modelling contract if he wins the contest run by men’s grooming brand The Bluebeards Revenge, male cancer charity Orchid and Men’s Fitness magazine.

More than 1,000 men claiming to have the perfect chiselled jawlines, bulging muscles and rugged good looks entered the competition, with judges narrowing the field to a final 40.

Nick says it would be a life-changing moment if he is successful although he admitted owning the title of Britain’s Manliest Man would be “cringeworthy”.

He said: “One of my friends who is a budding actor and model found out about the competition.

“When I read they wanted all these manly attributes I thought ‘I haven’t got any of those but I’ll apply anyway’.

“The title Britain’s manliest man is a bit cringeworthy but I believe it should be someone people can relate to.

“One of the finalists is a 19-year-old guy who plays for Nottingham Forest. What’s manly about that?

“It’s humbling to make it to the final 40 and to be honest getting this far I already feel like a winner.”

The dad-of-one runs a structural steelworks firm D. Morgan Welding with his dad Dennis which is far from reality as a life as a model.

He said: “I’m a steelworker who works 70 hours a week which I suppose is a manly job. I had the tips of my fingers reattached after they were ripped off.

“I’m so busy with the business at the moment and I can’t do anything to jeopardise that but obviously to be associated with raising awareness for men’s cancer would be a privilege.

"I’ll have to worry about it if it happens but it would be life-changing.”

Nick trains at the gym up to four times a week at Canterbury High School to remain at his peak fitness.
