Many residents were excited to spot the England football team's coach in a seaside town yesterday.

But it turns out the England team was not on a jolly in Whitstable.

Instead, the swish executive coach - used to transport stars such as Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling to major football events - was used to transport a group of lucky pensioners after their own coach broke down.

The group of 51 had come for a day trip to Whitstable from Swanley.

Guideline coaches, which owns the vehicle, says it was recently used to transport the England team to the airport as they travelled to in the finals of the inaugural UEFA Nations League.

A spokesman for the firm said: "The coach is used for England's men's and women's senior teams. It's their coach that they use to get to events.

"When this group's brand new coach wasn't working, we had this sitting in the yard, so that's what we sent them instead.

"You can hire it out - it normally costs more than regular coaches. But if we can use it to make somebody smile, we will."

The coach was spotted parked in Tankerton Road, and was later seen in the harbour.

Passerby Sarah Green said the coach was "very luxurious with leather seats".

She added: "We were talking to them as they were getting on the coach. They said they came down to visit the seaside as they don’t live by the sea."
