Fire at Oyster Bed Restaurant on Old Thanet Way at Chestfield near Whitstable

A popular family restaurant was evacuated after a fire broke out in the kitchen yesterday evening.

Firefighters were called to the Oyster Bed on the Old Thanet Way at Chestfield, near Whitstable, at 7.48pm.

The crews wearing breathing apparatus used a a high-pressure hose to tackle the flames, before clearing smoke and fumes from the property using a large fan.

There are no reports of any injuries and the cause has not yet been established.

The scene was declared safe at 8.20pm.
