Comedian Frank Skinner has revealed he has sidestepped a move to Whitstable after being put off by the town's world famous Crabzilla.

The TV funnyman is a regular sight on the coast where he visits friends while checking out seaside properties to buy with his girlfriend.

But plans to pack his bags are on hold for now after he joked he was put off by the 50ft sea monster apparently snapped lurking beneath the waters.

In an interview with the KM's What's On team, he said: "We've got very good friends, my son's godmother lives basically on the beach at Whitstable.

"It's one of those places me and my girlfriend have talked about many times.

"I've actually looked at a few houses there but obviously I've been a bit put off by the crab."

Mr Skinner also revealed Crabzilla will feature on BBC hit show Have I Got News For You after the fishy tale caused shockwaves around the world.

The long-running panel game is hosted by Mr Skinner tonight with guests comedienne Sara Pascoe and BBC political editor Nick Robinson joining captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton.

The story appeared on the front pages of the Whitstable Gazette, Daily Star and in news outlets across the globe.

It began after aerial images of the shadowy figure emerged on Station Road artist Quinton Winter's paranormal blog Weird Whitstable.

And Mr Winter spoke to KentOnline about the monster reaction, describing the furore caused as a "bit of fun".
