Huge slow worm appears in Whitstable garden

A huge slow worm has appeared in a garden, momentarily terrifying a mum.

Katy Rossi was in the garden of her Whitstable home when it reared its head.

The mother-of-two said: "I was in the garden and I was setting up my little boy's swimming pool.

"I saw it come from under our shed and I just thought 'What the hell is that?!'

"At first I thought it was a snake."

The slippery creature slithered under the 22-year-old's bin before disappearing.

She said: "I hope it does come back, it was quite amazing to see.

Slow worms are actually legless lizards - giving them traits including a tail they can shed and eyelids that can blink.

They are often found sunbathing, or rooting around in compost heaps and allotments.
