Timber battered by storms on the Whitstable coast has taken pride of place in a winning garden at the Chelsea Flower Show.
Wood from Whitstable Yacht Club's historic slipway was used in a gold medal-winning garden - designed by Joe Perkins Design.
The timber was replaced after it was severely damaged during last year's harsh winter storms.
But the greenheart timber - originally imported from Guyana - was reclaimed by Ashwells Reclaimed Timber then selected from the firm's yard by celebrated architect Joe Perkins.
Perkins gave it a second lease of life in a gold medal-winning garden designed for Facebook - where it was used to create a sea groyne wall, and the central decked area over a tranquil pool of water.
The garden - entitled Beyond the Screen - was designed to provide visitors with a place to "stop and think about the positive aspects of social media".
It was awarded a gold medal in the Best Space to Grow category at this year's Chelsea Flower Show - which ran from May 21 to May 25 and is said to have attracted about 167,000 visitors.
Designer Joe Perkins said: “I looked to the coast for inspiration when designing this garden. The reclaimed tropical timber from Whitstable Yacht Club told a story of the sea’s power as an eroding force, adding character and strength to the garden’s final design.”
Deb Davies-Tutt of Ashwells Timber said: “It was an honour to be invited to supply timber for Facebook’s first garden.
"We’re passionate about rescuing tropical timber from landfill, the fact that the timber chosen was reclaimed from Whitstable's historic yacht club makes this sustainable project even more poignant.”
