Whitstable lifeboat launches over concerns for 11-year-old boy between Whitstable Harbour and Hampton Pier
09:30, 14 May 2017
A lifeboat was scrambled over fears an 11-year-old boy could be at risk.
The Whitstable crew was called just before 4pm yesterday to search between the town's harbour and Hampton Pier in Herne Bay.
The lifeboat was stood down after an hour when it was confirmed police had found the child safe ashore.
The boat was launched again just after 6pm following a report of an empty kayak drifting off Tankerton.
The occupant was safe ashore, but crews recovered the craft and it was collected by its owner from the station later.
