A man in his late 20s was allegedly assaulted on the seafront after apprehending a suspected vandal.
Just after midday, the man left his van parked near Tankerton seafront - not far from the beach huts.
Moments later, the window of his van was smashed.
The victim - who was still in the area when it happened - rushed over to his vehicle and challenged the person he believed smashed the window.
But the suspect then allegedly assaulted him.
The victim suffered minor injuries in the incident, which happened on April 29.
Police have now released the image of a man "who could have important information to assist with the investigation".
Anyone who recognises the man is urged to call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting reference 46/86461/19.
Alternatively you can call the independent charity, Crimestoppers in Kent, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
