Diners have been flocking to a new Mexican-inspired restaurant and bar which has opened in Whitstable High Street.

Dirties, in a building formerly occupied by NatWest bank, is owned by local husband and wife team Martin and Jo Smith and their business partners.

This is the second restaurant opened by the team, who already run a successful flagship branch of Dirties in Hertford.

Their menu features a wide selection of Mexican-inspired dishes, including soft tacos, quesadillas, burritos and tostadas.

Mr Smith said: “We’re really excited to open our restaurant.

“We’ve already taken many, many bookings which is great. We’re very excited.”

As well as seating 50 covers inside the restaurant, the venue features a garden area and a small cocktail bar where diners are invited to enjoy a margarita.

An old bank vault is also available for private functions.

The new eatery has been met with largely positive reactions from local residents, since its opening was announced earlier this year.

Speaking at the time, local resident Kerry Hilden said: “Looks great. The menu looks fab, and not really much difference in price to Prezzo, Zizzi, or Pizza Express.”

Philip Hadler, who has lived in Whitstable for 72 years, said: “Sounds a great idea to me. Better than a tatty closed building.

“Feed the visitors, and the private function idea is good too. It gets my vote. It will fit in.”
