A man has been charged with the murder of a 25-year-old dad shot in the head in the street.
Luke Matthews, 28, was arrested in Whitstable on Tuesday morning after armed police stormed a holiday home in the coastal town.
He has been charged in connection with the death of Kyle Kelson, who was shot in the head in Brocks Drive in North Cheam, near Croydon, at just after 1am on Friday.
Police provided first aid, while ambulances and London's Air Ambulance also rushed to the scene.
But despite their best efforts, Kyle was pronounced dead at the scene at 1.45am.
Kyle's mother, Angella Kelson, said: "Kyle was a much-loved father, son, brother and friend to so many people.
"His big beautiful smile brought joy to all of us."
On Tuesday, armed police were sent to Joy Lane in Whitstable, shortly before 7.30am, sealing off the street while they approached an £850,000 detached house.
Neighbours were ordered to stay inside their homes as the raid was carried out.
The drama was witnessed by next-door neighbour Gary Carter, 57, who said: “We were sat in our living room and heard lots of shouting.
“We didn’t think anything of it and just assumed it was someone arguing. Then we looked out the window and there were six or seven armed police with guns and wearing balaclavas. I went out but I was told to go back in.”
Mr Carter estimated the incident lasted about an hour and later realised the shouting was armed police giving instructions.
He said there were numerous police cars, some unmarked, at the scene.
Sam Gambrill, who was out on an early-morning walk, added: “There were armed police and least 15 normal officers as well as five or six plain-clothed officers in unmarked cars.
“I could see a distressed young lady with a newborn in the back of one of the cars.”
Matthews, of Ilfied in Crawley, was arrested and later charged.
He is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court today.
