A couple were left baffled after they discovered an unusual critter on their garage door.
Anne and Roy Fisher, who live in Whitstable , found a stick insect at their home last Friday.
There are no native species to the UK and are only sometimes found in the south west, in places such as Devon, because of the warmer temperatures.
Anne, 87, told how her husband went out to the dustbin and saw what he thought was a twig stuck to it - but soon realised it was a stick insect.
"How it got there we don’t know because they don’t fly," the Dove Close resident said. "We thought somehow it had escaped from a school or something."
After phoning the nearby Joy Lane Primary School, a woman told her they do not keep insects on site.
But moments later, she received a call from another lady who said she would love to rehome it.
She came to Anne's house and said: "Oh my daughters will be thrilled - we’ve already got two giant stick insects. This will be lovely for them."
The creature went away happily in a plastic bowl with leaves in it.
Anne added: "I just thought it was so unusual and a bit of a mystery.
"I didn’t think people still kept them but obviously they do and it had a happy ending."
