One lane remained closed until just after 10am. Delays have now eased.

Police say it happened just after 8am when they were called to reports that a car had spun and hit the central reservation on the London-bound carriageway.

It led to some other cars colliding with each other. There was congestion on the slip road from Whitsable onto the A299.

Paramedics treated the driver of the car that crashed into the central reservation.

Crews cleared an oil spill on the carriageway.

Police were also called to another accident on the slip road to Bridge off the A2 where a van overturned.
