Organisers of Whitstable's Harbour Day have postponed this year's event amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Thousands of people usually flock to the town's maritime festival in the summer.
But the harbour community and Whitstable Maritime say it is becoming "increasingly obvious" social distancing is likely to continue beyond August and it would be unlikely volunteers or revellers would wish to attend.
A spokesperson said: "Regretfully, the board and the event planning team of Whitstable Maritime have agreed that we ask all contributors to co-operate in postponing the event until Saturday, August 7, 2021.
"In other words, today we shall freeze the plans, programme and budget for the event and will revisit them in January 2021 in preparation for the August show.
"To cancel now and start planning afresh would involve everyone in a great deal of work with little gain.
"We hope you are able to support this decision."
