A Whitstable resident helped lift the spirits of his neighbours stuck in lockdown by singing covers of popular tracks to his street.

Elvis impersonator Neil Duncan performed renditions songs such as Viva Las Vegas and Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond.

In a video filmed by neighbour Kay Boyson on Sunday, residents in Rosemary Gardens can be seen singing and dancing - while following the government's self-distancing rules.

She wrote in a post shared on Facebook: "The whole road was out, from the 100-year-old lady brought out by her carer to my 10-month-old little boy."

The singer can be seen in the video belting out the covers with a microphone and speaker.

Mr Duncan told KentOnline he is an Elvis and Dean Martin impersonator - who has recently started sharing a Tommy Cooper show on Facebook which has been viewed thousands of times.

"We live in a small close and there are mainly families but about five elderly ladies who live on their own who have been self-isolating for the last couple of weeks," he said.

"I thought it would be a good idea - providing it was safe and everyone stuck to the end of their drive - to one speaker out and sing a few songs to cheer them all up.

"I am very careful it didn’t present a problem as far as social distancing is concerned.

"It gave the people of the close a bit of community spirit and a bit of respite from being indoors on their own. Nobody knew about it but people started coming outside."

He said his neighbours "all get on" and there was even an 101-year-old who came out to watch, joined by her carer.
