Developer George Wilson warns fly-tippers in Chestfield and Hersden they will be caught.
09:32, 03 March 2017
Property developer George Wilson is set to install cameras to catch those responsible for “an epidemic of fly-tipping”.
He has previously vowed to help prosecute people dumping rubbish on his sites and now hopes CCTV will help – or at least act as a deterrent.
He has had enough of the piles of waste being tipped on his John Wilson business park in Chestfield and Lakesview in Hersden.
“We are now organising for cameras to be put up and they will be soon," he said.
“It’s an epidemic of fly-tipping that will and needs to be stopped.
“We will catch these people and we will sue them, I am never giving up until they have all been caught punished.”
As well as fridges, general waste and wooden pallets, a number of cars have also been abandoned in the business parks.
One Mercedes was left leaking oil and a van, which is used as a workshop, was dumped in a busy car park at the John Wilson park.
Mr Wilson, who lives in Wraik Hill, fears that the rubbish will attract rats and hopes to get rid of it all as soon as possible.
He has also pledged to get security patrols on the estates in a bid to catch the fly-tippers.
He added: “The ball is rolling and we hope to put an end to it.
“As the estates are private, the council’s powers are limited and it is a laborious process to get the waste removed that takes months.
“The occupants of the businesses are facing increased costs to get the waste cleaned up – it is totally unfair that in this current economic climate, innocent people are having to pay for inconsiderate disposal of rubbish.”
