Swalecliffe: Joseph Evans charged after Village Family Food Store staff allegedly attacked by vandal

A man has been charged with six offences after a shop was allegedly ransacked by a vandal.
Joseph Evans, 34, of Burnan Road in Whitstable, is accused of assaulting the shopkeeper and damaging glass windows and furniture at the Village Family Food Store in Herne Bay Road, Swalecliffe yesterday.
He has also been charged with causing an affray, damaging the windscreen of a Ford Fiesta, damaging the window of a Vauxhall Astra and damaging the window pane of a door.
Police were called to the incident just before 7am as a man was being detained by two off-duty police officers and members of the public.
A police spokesman said a man was taken to a local hospital with injuries not believed to be serious and was later discharged.
Evans has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday, April 4.
