Storm strikes Herne Bay, Whitstable and Canterbury as photographers capture stunning images
09:09, 19 July 2017
Spectacular lightning bolts were captured across the district as a stunning storm swept over Kent.
People woke in the early hours to lightning flashes and rumbles of thunder as the weather hit Canterbury and the coastal towns.
Keen photographers captured some brilliant photos of the storm - particularly Paul Darby's shot of Herne Bay clock tower.
The partially sighted father-of-two, 56, took the stunning photo from his car in the Neptune car park at 3am.
"Unfortunately my camera didn't work properly when the storm was at its worst, but I am pleased with the picture," the South Road resident said.
"It was the best storm I have seen and it went on for a couple of hours.
"At one point it absolutely poured down and I couldn't see the ground - it was a case of pointing the camera and hoping."
The Tunbridge Wells area was particularly badly hit, with dozens of homes flooded.
