A suspected rapist claimed his accuser has "something wrong in her head" and hatched a plan to have him locked up.

But the suspect, Haider Ali, was labelled "an accomplished liar" by prosecutor Daniel Stevenson.

The married 30-year-old denies two counts of sexual assault and one of rape, following what he claims was consentual sex with another woman.

Initially, he told police there had been no sexual contact with the complainant.

But when conflicting DNA evidence emerged Ali admitted there had been intercourse, denied rape, and claimed he lied to salvage other relationships, including his marriage.

A court heard he visited the woman's Herne Bay home late at night while drunk and high on cocaine, after another date ended.

His alleged victim said she fell asleep in the early hours after drinking with Ali and had refused his sexual advances.

But she came around while Ali raped her Canterbury Crown Court heard - an accusation he strongly denied.

Defence barrister Kieran Brand asked Ali: "Did the victim at any time fall asleep while you were at the address?"

"No,” he replied.

"Did the victim at any time fall asleep during intercourse?" Mr Brand asked.

"No," said Ali.

"Did you rape the victim?" continued Mr Brand.

"No I didn't," Ali said.

The defendant told the jury he left the property after accusing the alleged victim of stealing money.

He then drove to his Andrews Close home in Whitstable to sleep, the court heard.

When police arrested him at 6.40am he denied any improper behaviour and said there had been no sexual contact.

But forensics later found Ali's semen around her vaginal area and traces of cocaine in his blood.

Tests also revealed he had 221 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millimetres blood - 2.5 times the drink drive limit.

Other tests also revealed the victim had taken an unspecified amount of alcohol and evidence of recent cocaine use.

In his second interview Ali admitted sleeping with the woman but claimed she framed him for rape, the jury heard.

"There is something wrong with her head," he told Ds Wood during police interview.

But Mr Stevenson argued Ali visited her home in a "sexually heightened state" on cocaine and viagra before carrying out the attack.

He pointed out Ali told a series of lies in his first police interview then asked him: "Are you an accomplished liar Mr Ali?"

"No," Ali replied.

In his opening speech Mr Stevenson told the jury: "The defendant went over to where she was and began to kiss her.

"The victim stirred and pushed the defendant away, before falling back to sleep."

When she next woke, married Ali was reportedly groping her which she refused.

She next regained consciousness with Ali raping her during the April attack, the barrister told the jury.

"After a few minutes the victim came to and she became fully awake.

"She went into the kitchen and challenged the defendant, who denied that anything had happened.

"He suggested that she must have got undressed in her sleep, and that she had dreamt it," he said.

Canterbury Crown Court heard she shouted at Ali and kicked him out of her home, then sent him two texts.

"The first read: 'Why did you do that'.

“The second read: 'I woke up naked why? I told you 'no' Ali',"Mr Stevenson explained.
