Police received a report at 12.45am yesterday that the young victim had been assaulted in Whitstable.
Detectives have since carried out enquiries in a number of locations in the town, including in an alleyway near Millstrood Road.
Residents spotted officers standing at either end of the path, which runs alongside Whitstable Cricket Club.
A police spokesman said: "Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area on the evening of Friday, June 18, is asked to contact us on 01843 222289, quoting the reference number 46/105743/21."
Alternatively those with information can call independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
