Police were called to Whitstable seafront to reports of dozens of teenagers causing a disturbance.

Officers were called to Marine Parade, above Tankerton Slopes, yesterday evening after youngsters were reportedly seen fighting with bottles and jumping on cars.

Witnesses have said around 200 people gathered on the slopes but a police spokesman has said the figure was around 60 teens.

One eye witness said: "There was definitely about 250 people and everyone was completely drunk and there was at least three of four proper fist fights.

"There were lads taking their tops off and it was all bravado. They were all off their heads basically."

The group gathered at the end of Marine Parade, on the junction of Herne Bay Road and opposite the JoJo's seafront restaurant.

The witness added: "One of the girls in JoJo's came out to move her car because they were scrapping on her car.

"Staff there were escorting customers out because it was dangerous and scary for them to get out."

The group was spoken to when officers arrived at around 10.30pm and they seized quantities of alcohol from underage people who were in possession of it.

No offences were disclosed and no arrests made, but officers sent a number of people home and provided first aid to three people who required it due to alcohol intake.
