Thieves target home in Whitstable to steal motocross bikes
06:00, 07 February 2020
The owner of three motocross bikes stolen from his shed says the family is distraught at the loss.
Martin Anslow had planned to sell one of the machines to pay for knee surgery following a fall.
But now the 50-year-old builder from Whitstable says he is almost £10,000 out of pocket following what he believes was a targeted raid on his home.
"We are distraught, it's mine and my daughter Leanne's passion and what we work hard for - just for some lowlife to help themselves," he said.
The theft happened at their home in Dorset Close between 8am and 12.30pm on Friday, January 24.
The gang took two Hondas and a KTM dirt bike, one of which has a distinctive Woody Woodpecker design.
"They certainly came equipped to steal with cutting equipment because they were chained up with big padlocks," said Mr Anslow.
"That is what makes me think they knew what they were after and we were targeted.
"They are reports from neighbours of some men hanging around the street earlier in the day."
Mr Anslow suspects there may be a gang at work in east Kent because of a similar incident in Fordwich recently when a motocross bike was taken.
"These are not road-registered machines so easier to get rid of," he said.
"It's especially galling as I planned to sell one to pay for surgery for a knee injury I suffered while training in Spain.
"Obviously, we have shared it around the local motocross community but I would urge everyone with similar bikes to be on their guard."
