Southeastern passengers face delays after lorry hits bridge at Chestfield and Swalecliffe station for second time in a week

13:00, 14 July 2014

Rail passengers are facing delays today after a lorry hit a railway bridge in Chestfield - for the second time in a week.

Network Rail engineers are inspecting the bridge next to the Chestfield and Swalecliffe station after it was struck by a lorry at 10.30am.

It comes after trains were stopped from travelling over the bridge for 45 minutes last Monday after another lorry hit the bridge.

Southeastern spokesman Michelle Ulyatt says services have been suspended until a safety inspection is carried out.

She said:"Until they give the all-clear we’re unable to run trains and we advise passengers to check our website before travelling from Thanet stations."
