A group of travellers pitched up at a Sainsbury's car park.
People spotted five caravans parked at the superstore car park in Reeves Way, Chestfield, yesterday.
The travellers were seen arriving at about 7.30pm.
New powers - rubber-stamped by the High Court in April - could see travellers facing two years behind bars if they illegally pitch up on land in the Canterbury district. But these powers only apply to council-owned land.
Last year, bosses at Chestfield Medical Centre feared severe disruption for patients after travellers blocked staff from leaving its car park.
A member of staff at Sainsbury's this morning said the travellers have now moved on from the car park.
