A TV presenter who moved to Kent to be closer to her parents has been left devastated by the death of her mum.

Lucy Alexander, who spent years advising people on renovating properties on the BBC's Homes Under The Hammer, bought a doer-upper of her own in Whitstable last summer.

But last week Lucy's mum Kay died after a battle with cancer.

Posting on Instagram yesterday, Lucy said: "It’s been a week since my mum passed away. It feels like a dream. Thank you to everyone who has sent messages to me and my family.

"Mum could not have been more loved at the end. The tide took her out and we will always think of her when we hear the lapping waves in Whitstable."

Lucy, 49, also shared pictures of her mum in the town, including outside the Old Neptune pub.

Fellow television presenter Ruth Langsford wrote: "Gorgeous photo of you both. Remember the good times."

Eamonn Holmes added: "Just gone far too soon."

The bereavement comes just months after Lucy bought a home on the Kent coast.

She said last August: "I’ve been very busy recently spending time looking to buy a little weekender by the sea in Whistable as I want to spend more time with mum and dad.

"My offer got accepted this week... so not long now before I start the renovation process."

But on February 1 she tweeted that she had decided to take a break from social media.

"It just feels right whilst caring for someone I love," she said.

Three days later she revealed the devastating news to her followers.

"My mum sadly passed away last night," said Lucy.

"She battled cancer to the end.

"I’ve lost my mate. She was my everything.

"RIP mum. I’m waiting for your signs."

She received messages of support from Inbetweeners star Emily Atack and Good Morning Britain presenter Charlotte Hawkins, who both said they were sending their love.

Lucy was born in East Dulwich but has long-held a place in her heart for the Kent coast.

She previously shared her fond memories of family holidays in Herne Bay in a BBC show with former Strictly Come Dancing judge Len Goodman.
