Crews wearing breathing apparatus used two main jets, a hose reel and water from a hydrant to tackle the fire at the back of the home.
Ambulance crews are at the scene but everyone has now been accounted for and nobody has been hurt.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
Kent Highways say that South Street is blocked near to the junction of Milstrood Road.
Mike Blundy, of South Street, said: "My wife and I were sitting in our garden when suddenly the sky was filled with black smoke.
"The people next door were asked to leave immediately as the flames were spreading to the dividing fence."
