Whitstable beach hut up for grabs in Island Wall with six-figure asking fee

00:01, 12 September 2014

A beach hut on Whitstable seafront is up for sale for a whopping £120,000 – the price of a three-bedroom house in England's northern cities.

The Island Wall shack was put on the market with the sky-high price tag, despite the fact it can only be used during daytime.

But that has not put off potential buyers, who have already put in offers above the asking price.

Will Roalfe, of agents Christopher Hodgson, said: "The market has been exceptionally buoyant this year. Although it's not an absolute one-off, the chance to own land on the beach is rare, so when something like this comes up it always makes good money.

"We have had interest locally and further afield and are listening to offers in excess of the guide price.

"We did sell another piece of land a stone’s throw away that wasn't quite as big for more than £100,000."

The blue-painted hut, which sits between the Old Neptune pub and the Horsebridge Centre, has a timber decking and barbecue area and enjoys sea views over the Isle of Sheppey.

It has windows on three sides, overhead storage in the roof and its double doors open to a decked area leading to Whitstable beach.

And a paved terrace area with brick-built barbecue over a tiled base is included in the freehold to the rear of the hut.

Its hefty price tag is more evidence of the growing north-south property divide as house values continue to soar in Whitstable.

In Hartlepool, County Durham, buyers can buy a semi-detached three-bedroom house with garden, kitchen and dining area and modern bathroom for £119,995.

In July, the Office for National Statistics reported property values in the Whitstable had jumped by more than 22% in April – almost two-and-a-half times the average across the south east.
