Whitstable Town boss Scott Porter on the trip to Greenwich Borough

00:00, 24 January 2019

Scott Porter says Whitstable's trip to basement boys Greenwich Borough on Saturday is a nine-pointer.

The manager described their defeat at home to Faversham last weekend as a comedy of errors after the Oystermen dropped to 15th in Bostik South East.

Porter said only three players emerged from the derby with credit as Town slumped to their seventh loss in 10 games.

Whitstable are now just seven points off the bottom of the table with 15 games to go.

Porter said: "These were two six-pointers and this is probably a nine-pointer on Saturday.

"I don't think I've said that before in my managerial career but this is a nine-pointer, to go to Greenwich.

"You never know what you're going to get, what they've signing or who they are.

"We've got to go there on Saturday and win. I want a lot of energy, a lot of heart and a lot of passion to get us the result we need."

Jordan Wright scored an excellent goal for Whitstable on Saturday but by half-time, Faversham had come from behind to lead.

Porter said: "I can only vouch for three players giving me a performance and that was the disappointing thing.

"After the changes we made and the detail we did in our preparation, at home against a side below us, too many people had off days.

"The two wide men were effective but the defending was poor and we didn't take our chances. It was a comedy of errors and it's another step back.

"On the plus side were Taylor Fisher, John Walker and Steve Smith but apart from that, there was nothing to shout about.

"You can't have eight players having off-days. We did it against Herne Bay and now we've done it against Faversham.

"People have got to look at where we are in the table because it's worrying. We've got to get ourselves up, stick together and get through it.

"People have got to come out of their shells now. I'm not one for making massive changes but the players have got to come to the table now.

"You can say it all in the changing-room but you've got to do it when you cross the white line, simple as that.

"You've got 90 minutes to prove you're worthy of winning a football game and that's what they've got to get back to doing."
