Whitstable Town boss Scott Porter looking for leaders

00:00, 01 November 2018

Scott Porter is looking to bring in someone who can add more leadership to his Whitstable Town side.

In their last two matches they have thrown away 1-0 leads and lost both 3-1.

Manager Porter does not expect to be able to get someone in immediately in time for their next league match on Saturday to Whyteleafe but is trying to make an addition.

He said: “We are lacking a bit of leadership that we lost when Craig Cloke and Shaun Welford left after last season. We do not have that now.

“We have experience but not that leadership. We are looking to get someone in like that but that does not happen overnight.”

Whitstable have three home games in the space of six days to try and get back to winning ways.

They were due to play Tonbridge Angels in the Kent Senior Cup last night, Whyteleafe on Saturday and Greenwich Borough in the Velocity Trophy on Tuesday.

Porter said: “We need to take our chances, which we are not doing at the moment.

“They are tough games coming up. I need to give people games to get them back to match fitness.

“It’s a week of playing at home and three tough games in a short space of time. The main aim is the league and to get a run going again in that.

“We obviously want to do as well as we can in all the cup competitions and get that winning mentality back.”

Porter wants to see his side start seeing out games after giving away leads in both of their last two games.

In the FA Trophy on Saturday, they conceded three goals in six minutes to lose 3-1.

Porter added: “We have to manage games better. That’s two games on the trot now we have thrown away a lead.

“It’s not what I expect from my players. People are not doing their jobs for 90 minutes and that’s to do with the fitness levels not being where they should be.

“We have to learn to put teams to bed and we could have done that in both games. We can’t keep trying to win games 1-0 and we have to be a bit more attacking to see off games.

“I do not expect us to concede three goals in any game. We controlled the game for 80 minutes but then we crumbled.”
