Whitstable Town are hoping for FA Trophy take-off on the edge of Heathrow Airport this weekend.

They travel to Bedfont Sports in the preliminary round for a game which will be played just across the road from Terminal 4.

Bedfont play in Bostik South Central and represent an unknown quantity for the Oystermen.

But rather than scouting the opposition, boss Scott Porter wants his players to focus on their own seven-match unbeaten run.

He said: “We won’t take them lightly but we’ve just got to carry on doing what we’re doing.

“We haven’t had them watched or spoken to anyone up there about them, so we’ll just worry about ourselves.

“You’ve got to be on top of your game to get rewards and we want a run in this because the money’s important. You don’t want to come back on the coach, two-and-a-half hours, having been knocked out of the competition.

“It’s a big game for the club and I expect us to go there and do a professional job.”

Whitstable climbed to a season-high sixth position in Bostik South East last weekend with a 2-0 win at home to Greenwich.

Porter said: “To get a run going is so good for confidence and the mentality. It’s going well and we’re working hard.
“I still haven’t played the same side twice because of injuries, unavailability and suspensions but it shows every player in my squad has bought into how I want them to play.

“People can play in a number of positions and that’s something I did last year when we were challenging to get promoted.

“ I can’t fault anyone. We deal with teams’ pressure but we also create a lot of chances.

“At this stage, you don’t want to be too far off. I want to be in the pack from the start.

“We weren’t but we’ve had a run of games and now we’re right up there. We’re not getting carried away but we’ve got off to a good start.

“There’s still a lot of hard work to do and we’re taking each game as it comes.”
