Whitstable need a derby win at home to Sittingbourne on Saturday to keep their play-off dream alive.

Revenge is also on the Oystermen’s agenda after they lost 3-0 to Bourne at Woodstock Park back in September.

But joint-manager Danny Ward knows bragging rights are of secondary importance with his side looking to steal the final play-off place in Ryman League, Division 1 South.

Worthing’s midweek win at Chipstead sent them fifth and left Whitstable seven points off the pace with 12 games remaining.

Ward said: “Whether we’re punching above our weight, I’m not sure. We’re seven points off the play-offs but seven out of last 12 games are at home and we can win those.

“The play-offs are not out of reach. Worthing won on Tuesday night to go seven points clear of us but we’ve got to play them in two weeks. We need to go on a run like we did in January and we’re capable of doing it. That’s what the players are trying to do.

“I’m more frustrated for the players than anything else because they’re not getting the rewards they deserve. We could easily have won our last two games on the chances we created.”

Joe Kane returns after suspension to face Sittingbourne but otherwise Whitstable’s squad is unchanged.
