Whitstable Town hoping Aaron Simpson stays with them rather than signing for Maidstone United
09:45, 12 June 2014
Whitstable Town have warned defender Aaron Simpson that he risks "going backwards" if he turns them down and signs for Maidstone United.
Simpson, who made his senior debut for Town as a 16-year-old last season, has been tipped to go on and make a career in the professional game.
He’s believed to have been in talks with the Stones this week and has also spoken to Hythe Town, as well as meeting with Whitstable joint-manager Danny Ward.
Ward said: "Aaron’s speaking to this, that and the other. All I said to him was 'what you need to do is play'.
"It’s no good him sitting on the bench at Maidstone. If he doesn’t play, he’ll go backwards.
"If he does get a game, good luck to him, but at this stage, it would be better for him to have another year with us."
