Scott Porter has set Whitstable a target of finishing this season in the top 10 of Bostik South East.

The Oystermen are seven points adrift at the moment with 13 games to go.

Porter’s side have gone seven games without a win but he believes they’ve turned a corner.

Back-to-back draws with Greenwich and Sevenoaks have at least stopped the rot after three straight defeats and Porter said: “Our aim now is to finish in the top 10.

“I always set goals for everyone because I want to be successful and I want to win football games.

“There’s no reason we can’t do it and the boys want to do it.

“They’ve got a good attitude and we’re fighting for each other.

“It’s our first year in this league, we’ve had a lot of problems with injuries, suspensions and unavailability and it’s been frustrating on that part. But we’re not feeling sorry for ourselves, we’re going to keep working hard and the changing room’s very positive.”

Whitstable conceded a last-minute equaliser at Sevenoaks on Tuesday night.

“It just sums it up lately,” Porter added. “They’ve hit a 35-yarder and when it goes your way, that either gets blocked or goes wide but he’s hit a great strike.

“There were no negatives because everyone worked so hard and we were organised.

“The boys expressed themselves in the final third and at the start we’d have probably taken a point.

“It’s disappointing we didn’t get all three because it went on so late but that’s football.”

The Oystermen entertain third-placed Hastings at the Belmont on Saturday.

Porter said: “We need a good performance at home, that’s the bottom line.

“We haven’t been great at home and Hastings are up there but sometimes we play better against the better sides.

“The pitch doesn’t help and there is extra pressure at home but it is what it is. I want us to get back to being a hard team to break down and we have done that for the last two games.

“We’ve got to do that against Hastings because they’re up there, they’ve got some decent players and they’ll bop it about a bit.

“We’ve just got to keep working together and see what we can do.”

Tom Bryant and Louis Sprosen are away this weekend and the club are still waiting on international clearance for Nick Treadwell.
