Whitstable Town joint-manager Danny Ward believes The Belmont has become a place to fear for visitng clubs
00:01, 25 September 2014
The Belmont is fast becoming a fortress for Whitstable Town and joint-manager Danny Ward wants opposing teams to dread visiting the ground.
Whitstable won 2-1 at home to Horsham on Saturday and then sent Carshalton packing on the wrong end of a 4-1 scoreline on Tuesday.
That means the Oystermen have won five of their first six games at home this season – drawing the other – and scoring 16 goals in the process.
Ward said: "I’ve always enjoyed coming to Whitstable in the past. But straight away, when we took over, I said I didn’t want anybody to enjoy coming to Whitstable any more.
"We can be good hosts before and after the game - but we win the game. I don’t like being nice, I just want to win and win the right way.
"We’re good to watch. I told the players after Tuesday’s game 'I’d pay to watch you' and I can’t give them a bigger compliment than that.
"We were due to give someone a hiding, the way we’ve been playing and it happened on Tuesday. We could have got seven or eight and the way we played, it was some of the best football any of my teams has played for a few years."
Whitstable, who climbed to fifth in Ryman League Division 1 South on the back of those two wins, are on the road twice in the next few days.
They go to Three Bridges on Saturday before Ward and his brother Jim take the Oystermen back to their old club Sittingbourne for a Kent derby on Tuesday night.
Work commitments forced Luke Girt to miss the Carshalton game but he returns on Saturday and Ollie Gray should be available after recovering from an ankle injury.
However, Ashley Ulph (ankle) is still out.
