Danny Ward has a target in mind which he believes would ensure Whitstable a play-off spot – an achievement which would have been beyond their wildest dreams when he and brother Jimmy took over last May.

Town’s run of 16 points from a possible 18 in Ryman League, Division 1 South, came to an end with a 1-0 home defeat to Chipstead on Saturday, however they remain two places and four points outside the top five.

With 13 games to go, Ward believes Town need 27 more points to seal a place in the post-season shake-up, starting with three at fifth-bottom Walton Casuals on Saturday.

He said: “I have seen (Folkestone boss) Neil Cugley say he thinks 75 points will be enough and I think that’s right. That’s nine wins from our last 13 games.

“We have (fifth-placed) Worthing next week and (runaway leaders) Burgess Hill away to come, but other than that all our games are against teams below us.

“Of course with that the other can of worms is that teams down the bottom will be fighting for their lives, but we have it all to play for, we just need to get back on another good run.”
