Whitstable Town joint manager Danny Ward says he is taking nothing for granted against Ryman League Division 1 South strugglers East Grinstead Town

Whitstable Town joint-manager Danny Ward is taking nothing for granted ahead of Saturday’s Ryman League, Division 1 South clash, at lowly East Grinstead Town.
Not even the Oystermen’s impressive 1-1 draw at the weekend with second-placed Burgess Hill Town is going to change that.
That point left Ward’s side 10th, 12 places above Saturday’s opponents, but Ward said league positions counted for nothing.
He said: “I haven’t seen a bad side so far this season and am sure that will be the case on Saturday.
“East Grinstead Town may appear to be struggling on paper but they got a great result against Tooting. That goes to prove how open this league is this season.
“Look at ourselves. We are five points off the play-offs and 11 off the relegation zone. There is not much separating any of the sides – it’s that open.”
Town are unbeaten in two, something Ward admits is due to a change in formation.
He said: “We changed to 4-4-2 a couple of weeks ago and the move appears to have worked well.
“We’ll continue with it and see where it takes us.”
But it’s not only a change in formation Ward said his players were enjoying.
He said: “We are working hard in training but are also having plenty of laughs.
“My coach couldn’t make it on Tuesday so I took the session – they (his players) couldn’t get away with what they do normally!
“We worked on a few set pieces but I also ensured we had a laugh or two.
“You’ve got to have a smile on your face and enjoy what you are doing otherwise there is no point doing it.”
Ward also said having consistency in his line-up was also helping.
He said: “We’ve started with the same team for the past two games and that has been beneficial.
“We’ll start with 10 of last week’s side again this week. The only one missing is defender Joe Kennett (wedding). Luke Doherty replaces Kennett in a straight swap.
