Whitstable Town joint-boss Jim Ward is vowing to bring success to the club but knows there will be disappointments along the way.

A 3-1 home Ryman League, Division 1 South defeat against Faversham on Tuesday night – their third in four games at Belmont – was one of them but Ward and brother Danny are here for the long haul.

He said: “We are a fledgling side. We have started from scratch with only three players still here from last season and are relishing the challenge.

“We turned down three or four offers before coming here because they weren’t the right clubs. We get on great with the chairman and committee and want to take Whitstable into the Ryman Premier.

“If not this season, then next – if we get a winning side here, people will come and watch.

“We started off the season at 100mph and got everybody’s expectations up. We are certainly going through a blip at the moment, so we either play our way out of it or sign new player. That’s what you do in football.

“Not because the players we have got are bad but if it’s not working you have got to try and fix it. We have got the experience to do it.

“Even when we were winning leagues, I was always looking to strengthen and we know there are a couple of areas we need to do that to here, including midfield.

“Nick Treadwell and Luke Girt were excellent in the first 45 minutes against Faversham – but we need more.”

Town travel to Corinthian Casuals on Saturday (3pm).
