Scott Porter wants his Whitstable Town team to start finishing off teams off and score more goals.

Whitstable have scored the fewest goals in the Bostik South East this season with 11 from 11 games but have one of the best defensive records.

Porter’s side had lost four matches in a row before their victory over Greenwich Borough in the Velocity Trophy on Tuesday.

Their next opponent is Sittingbourne in the league on Saturday.

Manager Porter said: “We need to finish teams off at this level and you can’t afford to miss your chances. It is frustrating as it puts more pressure on the back line.

“We need contributions from other areas of the pitch.

“We were not a big scoring side last year and we are again this year. We have to get back to keeping clean sheets as well.

“It is a Kent derby and I like these games as they are more of a battle. It’s very tight at the moment in the table and a win can take you up three or four places.”

Whitstable ended their four match losing run with a 4-1 win over Greenwich on Tuesday.

Porter said: “It was a good win for us to get that confidence back. We had a few players back and we were able to use the squad well.

“It was an important game for us as we needed a win. We got back to the normal hard-working stuff we do. Scoring four goals was also pleasing.

“We still have a lot of hard work to do. Our finishing was better and our work off the ball was good.

“James Morrish and Chris Saunders were back and that made a massive difference to us. To keep going and losing can make the heads drop.

“It was not all doom and gloom though as we knew we had players to come back. I’ve not been able to start the same 11 in consecutive games this season.”

Whitstable have suffered with injury problems this season and has impacted their form of late.

Porter is looking to strengthen his side and hopes to make a signing by the weekend.

He added: “We have been looking to get someone in and hopefully we can get something done by the weekend in bringing that player to the club.”
