Scheme targets law-breaking lorry drivers
00:00, 20 July 2006
A CRACKDOWN on lorry drivers who flout laws and put the safety of motorists at risk has been launched by the minister of transport.
MP Steve Ladyman came to Ashford to support the work of the Highways Agency, which has joined up with the Vehicle & Operator Services Agency (VOSA) to cut the number of serious incidents on our motorways and A-roads caused by wayward lorries and their drivers.
The scheme will target lorries on international journeys and spot checks will be increased.
Dr Ladyman said: "This type of initiative puts us all on a level playing field."
