Disruption at Canterbury West railway station down to police operation leading to arrest of man on roof of nearby property

Disruption for passengers at Canterbury West railway station yesterday evening was due to a man being on the roof of a nearby property.
A police cordon was set up around the area surrounding St Stephen's Road, with the Kingmead Roundabout also being shut.
Officers apprehended a man located on top of a nearby property and he was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.
The arrested man is 28 and from the city.
The police operation, which was launched at about 5.15pm, led to the closure of the road meaning passengers could not get to Canterbury West.
Bus replacement services, which were running to due to pre-planned work on the line, were diverted to Canterbury East station.
Ambulance, multiple police cars and the fire service were deployed and residents were told to stay in their homes.
The incident was dealt with after 9pm and the cordon was lifted.
