A multi-million pound replacement of a dilapidated Canterbury grammar school is now complete following an 18-month construction.
Simon Langton Girls now boasts a state-of-the-art teaching block, a new dining area and sports hall.
Bosses at the school have taken possession of the new-build, and pupils attending during lockdown have been getting accustomed to their fresh surroundings.
Its completion now paves the way for the demolition of the old run-down buildings which were suffering from significant levels of disrepair. Once schools can return in full, all pupils will be using the new classrooms.
A statement from the project’s architects, Lee Evans Partnership, reads: “As part of the design development, a conscious effort was made to reduce the school’s carbon footprint, with a variety of measures used to exploit natural daylight, natural ventilation strategies, solar shading for summer months and thermal heating for colder months.”
