This was the scene after teenage driver lost control and ploughed into parked cars in Whitstable this morning.

The incident happened at 9.45am at the junction of Saddleton Road and Forge Lane. An eyewitness said two teenagers were in the blue Peugeot which careered into the parked cars.

He said: “The young driver was trying to flee the scene of the accident when a member of the public pinned him to the ground to prevent him running off.”

He said a teenage girl who had been a passenger in the vehicle was left standing by the side of the road while emergency services arrived.

A Kent Police spokesman said the road was blocked in both directions while the wrecked car was recovered. The road reopened again at 1pm.

He confirmed the driver had been present at the scene and had been spoken to by officers who took his details, and added it is not being treated as a failure to stop at the scene of an accident.
