Firemen take motorised festive village to Deal High Street for Christmas charity collections
00:01, 17 December 2016
Months of work by crews at Deal Fire Station has paid off and now today (Saturday) they’ll be showing off their handiwork.
Firefighters from the London Road station have completely refurbished their trailer which now boasts a fully motorised Christmas village scene.
It will be towed onto Deal High Street every day from Saturday until Christmas Eve inclusive, and they’re keen for people old and young to come and show their appreciation buy donating to their annual collection.
“It’s also a chance for us to talk about Community Fire Safety,” said watch manager Malcolm Cowie.
There will be leaflets available and advice on how to book a free home fire safety check too.
Watch Manager Cowie added: “It has taken the best part of about three months to make.
“It has full movement with a miniature fairground and skaters on an ice rink.
“It’s quite spectacular, especially when lit up.”
Every year the firecrews pitch up outside Marks & Spencer and help lighten the mood of the precinct with the music playing trailer.
Collections are divided up with half going to the Fire Fighters Charity and the other half for local good causes.
Any donation is welcome, be it a collection of coppers, paper money or cheques.
The fund will be counted in the New Year and presented to the beneficiaries at a presentation evening soon after.
All aspects of fire awareness can be discussed when the crews are in town including safe cooking, use of electrical appliances and the installation of smoke alarms.
